The Opportunity: WisDems seeks an intelligent, personable, organized, self-starting individual to be a part of our data team on a full-time basis. As the Deputy Data Director, you will work with the Data team at the party, informing WisDems’ electoral strategy work, partnering with other departments (including Organizing, Voter Protection, Political & Communications) to execute projects, and using data to ensure WisDems' work leverages our resources effectively and reflects our values. In coordination with the Data and Analytics Director, the Deputy Data Director will help handle the day-to-day data needs of races in Wisconsin, county party organizations, state and federal campaigns, and activists.


What You’ll Do at WisDems: 

  • Design and build reports and tools for other departments and external partners in line with key programmatic priorities, particularly the Organizing and Voter Protection departments.
    • Build data pipelines, integrations and automated workflows for reporting and data flow purposes using tools such as Google BigQuery.
    • Provide timely and relevant analysis of data and fielding requests for specialized research projects, in many cases requiring rapid turnaround.
    • Produce and share analysis of voter contact results, early vote and absentee turnout, voter registration, and other data relevant to campaigns.
  • Manage all aspects of Packetland - this includes but is not limited to:
    • Coding the necessary data pipelines
    • Owning backwards planning and tracking deadlines on an ongoing basis
    • Interfacing with other departments to communicate deadlines, needs, and core strategic decisions.
  • Communicate our data systems with other departments as well as with external stakeholders such as candidates, volunteers, and County Parties through:
    • Maintaining and responding to our ticketing system for data support requests and exports.
    • Implementing systems for access to and data sharing within Votebuilder including managing users, user profiles, and committees.
    • Developing and presenting VAN training materials to the organizing team and external stakeholders in statewide, small group and one-on-one settings.
  • Support other members of the data team to complete projects as necessary, including administering tools such as VAN, Hubdialer, Reach and other voter contact platforms.
  • On year requirements include working outside of normal work hours; including canvassing and other election-preparation as necessary.


Core Qualifications

  • Technical Expertise: Advanced technical ability coding in SQL, Python, and Google Sheets. Experience creating and managing data pipelines.

Qualifications (Preferred): 

  • Previous campaign experience is preferred, especially familiarity with Organizing, Voter Protection, and with Wisconsin politics.
  • Experience managing external stakeholder relationships and ticketing systems.
  • Knowledge of DNC and NGPVAN vansync tables.
  • Experience pushing and pulling data via the APIs of widely used political vendors, such as NGPVAN, Civis Platform, Reach, Google BigQuery and Cloud Storage.
  • Working experience with Civis Platform or the Google BigQuery/Cloud Storage data warehouses.

The pay range for this role is:

80,000 - 90,000 USD per year (In Person - Madison (15 N))
