Compensation: $21/hr (shift premium for hours between midnight and 8am is an additional $2/hr) 


Regular Duties 

Our Services Desk is the heart of HOEM, the first point of contact for our residents. We answer questions, offer support, and create positive first impressions, ensuring every resident and guest feels at home. We're seeking friendly, outgoing individuals who love connecting with students. The ideal candidate will excel in casual conversations, provide helpful resources, and foster a sense of community. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. You'll need to multitask, manage time effectively, stay calm, and think critically in dynamic situations. Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude are key to success in this role. A high-level overview of the role is below: 

  1. Provide excellent customer service 
  2. Ensure our HOEMies feel safe and welcome 
  3. Communicate with current and prospective students 
  4. Provide leadership to student staff experience team 
  5. Marketing & tours 

We’re a team of people who does whatever it takes, so there will be other duties that you are assigned in your role with us that don’t fit nicely into this list.   

 

Success in this role will be demonstrated by: 

  • Create positive first impressions: Every student feels welcomed and at home when they enter the building and lobby. You’ll know all of our resident’s names.  
  • Effective marketing strategies: HOEM maintains full occupancy, with targeted marketing efforts successfully attracting prospective residents, resulting in a measurable increase in inquiries and bookings.  
  • Strong problem-solving abilities: You’ll apply critical thinking and communication skills to confidently assess situations and resolve issues effectively.   
  • Engage in meaningful conversations: Students will recognize you for engaging in casual conversations, offering helpful resources and fostering a sense of community. 
  • Provide exceptional support: Residents will feel like you are always able to address their needs promptly and efficiently. 
  • Communicate effectively: Interactions with students and staff will be professional and follow the HOEM voice.  
  • Multitask and manage time: Even during the busier times, tasks are handled efficiently, and time is managed effectively to maintain smooth operations at the desk.  
  • Stay calm under pressure: In dynamic situations, you’re able to think critically and maintain composure resulting in students reporting a positive experience even when dealing with difficult situations.  
  • Exhibit patience and flexibility: Students will report that you’re able to exhibit patience and adaptability to support their diverse needs. 

 

Hours of Work: This position will be part-time, working an assigned shift on weekends. Additional hours may be available to cover weekday shifts and will be offered to you based on your availability.  


There are 2 different shifts available, and you would be assigned a consistent shift: 

 

Saturday & Sunday, 4pm – midnight 

Saturday & Sunday, midnight – 8am 

   

Move-In & Move-out Days: Move-in and move-out periods may require additional hours or a different shift than your typical assigned shift. You will receive at least 2 weeks’ notice for your assigned work hours for these days. Our turnover periods are end of April/beginning of May, and middle to end of August. 

 

Away Date Blackout Periods: Due to the cyclical nature of our work, there are specific periods that no absences will be permitted during our turnover periods. You’ll be notified in advance for the blackout periods for the upcoming cycle. 

 

All successful candidates must pass a Police Criminal Records Check.
