Major Gifts Officer
Position Summary
The Major Gifts Officer plays a pivotal role in advancing our mission to help people overcome barriers to gainful employment. This person will be responsible for cultivating, stewarding, and soliciting major gift donors, as well as managing relationships with a portfolio of key contributors and prospects. With an eye for strategy and relationship building, the Major Gifts Officer will focus on developing and growing our major gifts program, generating impactful donations, and increasing donor engagement to ensure the long-term sustainability of our programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Develop and maintain relationships with individual donors, foundations, and corporate partners capable of making significant contributions.
- Portfolio Management: Develop and manage a portfolio of major gift donors and prospects, ensuring regular contact, cultivation, and stewardship strategies are in place to enhance relationships and engagement.
- Fundraising Strategy: Partner with the Development team to identify potential major gift prospects, analyze giving trends, and implement strategies to expand our major donor base.
- Event Participation and Engagement: Attend donor and community events, as needed, to represent the organization and build relationships that support the major gift pipeline.
- Data Management: Track all donor interactions in our CRM, Donor Perfect to maintain accurate and current records, helping to inform overall development strategy and reporting needs.
- Reporting and Analysis: Prepare and present regular progress reports, tracking performance metrics, and helping identify areas of opportunity for revenue growth and relationship enhancement.
- Collaboration with Development Team: Work closely with other Development team members on coordinated campaigns, including annual giving, planned giving, and corporate giving programs.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience in major gifts, development, or fundraising, preferably within a nonprofit organization.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with an ability to inspire and motivate donors to support our mission.
- Relationship Building: Proven track record of managing and growing donor relationships; strong interpersonal skills, adept at working with high-net-worth individuals.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with CRM systems (e.g., Donor Perfect, Raiser’s Edge, Salesforce) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Mission-Driven: Passionate about supporting our mission of helping people overcome barriers to gainful employment.
- Adaptable and Organized: Able to manage multiple projects with attention to detail, take initiative, and work in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation.
- Knowledge of planned giving and capital campaigns.
- Previous experience with volunteer management or event planning is a plus.
Compensation
- $70,000 - 80,000 Base Salary plus performance incentives
