Youth Civic Accelerator

Wisconsin Organizing Director | Badger Youth Action (a project of the YCA)

About Youth Civic Accelerator

Our vision is to build and seed sustainable civic infrastructure that centers young people, BIPOC communities, and working-class voters, especially those historically excluded from political power. Through bold organizing, strategic civic engagement, and aligned electoral programming, this new formation will seek to build power, shape narrative, and drive measurable outcomes across elections and issue-based campaigns.

We believe that long-term political transformation in our country requires bold experimentation, strong operational alignment, and a willingness to invest in shared infrastructure while coordinating local efforts under a cohesive national strategy. By uniting state affiliates within a clearly defined set of political priorities, we can leverage the advantages of collective resources and coordination, even as each affiliate tailors its approach to meet the distinct needs of its community.

Position Summary

Badger Youth Organizing (BYO) / Badger Youth Action (BYA) is hiring an Organizing Director to lead our strategy in Wisconsin. This role will  train and supervise the regional organizers, as well as plan, execute, and track base building and volunteer engagement efforts. They will also provide hands-on support for youth-led campaigns and power-building on college campuses in the state. This role is for someone with the discipline and skills to think strategically, act decisively, and organize effectively within the realities of the world as it is in order to shift power where it matters most.

We’re looking for someone who can craft an innovative organizing strategy for building youth and BIPOC power in the state, with data-informed goals and specific timelines to accomplish our goals, strategize on how we meet them, and ensure that the organization is maintaining a consistent, compelling, and effective community engagement plan.

The strongest candidates will be those who are energized by talking to new people, passionate about civic power, and eager to turn campuses into hubs of democratic participation. They will be bold, creative, and deeply committed to meeting students where they are, in dorms, clubs, classrooms, and beyond, and have experience leading successful organizing efforts.

This position is not for idealists who only dream about how the world should be; it is for a builder, a strategist, and an executor who is willing to organize in the reality of how things are to shift power where it matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and execution of BYO/BYA’s Wisconsin-specific organizing strategy, centering youth and BIPOC voter engagement, campus power-building, and youth mobilization.
  • Develop and direct strategies to build political power for Badger Youth Organizing and Badger Youth Action in alignment with BYO/BYA’s  electoral and issue-based priorities.
  • Design and oversee a statewide organizing campaign including voter registration, education, and turnout programs that grow youth and BIPOC power and sustain grassroots infrastructure.
  • Supervise, coach, and set clear goals for regional organizers, ensuring alignment with overall campaign strategy and organizational priorities.
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings to provide mentorship, accountability, and professional development support.
  • Track, analyze, and report on program data to assess impact, identify trends, and refine organizing strategies.
  • Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and growth-oriented team culture that centers racial equity, belonging, and youth leadership development.
  • Cultivate strong relationships with aligned partners, elected officials, student organizations, and youth-led movements to expand civic participation and counter voter suppression efforts.
  • Provide and support regular internal communications related to progress-to-goals.

Key Qualifications

Minimum Experience:

  • Strategic Organizing: At least 4+ years of experience in community or electoral organizing, or advocacy, ideally with direct experience in Wisconsin progressive campaigns.

  • Coalition Building & Communication: Skilled relationship-builder with fluency in both grassroots and institutional spaces. Strong communicator and political educator, capable of translating complex strategies for youth and varied audiences.
  • Project & Time Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with tight deadlines, shifting priorities, and remote team structures. Self-starter comfortable working independently, including long or irregular hours and travel as needed.
  • Progressive Infrastructure & Data Fluency: Familiarity with data ecosystems (e.g., State Voices, America Votes, The Movement Cooperative, Analyst Institute), and experience working with underrepresented communities. Understanding of the limitations of traditional political datasets in organizing these communities.
  • Technical & Analytical Skills: Comfort with technology/virtual platforms, including Zoom, Google Hangouts, Slack, Asana, etc. Experience with SQL, relational databases, Google Sheets/Excel formulas, and platforms like Civis and BigQuery. Skilled in creating automated reports using tools like Looker, Tableau, or Google Sheets, and managing data pipelines and GitHub documentation.
