About the Position

We are currently seeking a co-op student interested in Protein Biochemistry to join the Analytics team. The successful candidate will be responsible for antibody/antigen purification and biophysical characterizations . The successful co-op student will frequently be challenged to critically analyze results and contribute to the Zymeworks team effort to create best-in-class therapeutics.

This position reports to a Scientist in the Analytics group and will be based in Vancouver, BC. The candidate must be available to work on site without relocation assistance.

 

The hourly wage for this co-op position is $21.00 CAD. 


What You'll Do


The student is expected to participate in the purification and characterization of biotherapeutic proteins: 

  • Supports the purification of antibody/antigen using immunoaffinity chromatography. 
  • Supports protein characterizations (CE-SDS, HPLC-SEC, ciEF, DSF, etc.). 
  • Supports the Analytics team’s biophysical characterizations efforts through sample and reagent preparation. 
  • May support recombinant protein expression in mammalian cell lines. 
  • Prepares media, buffers and reagents stocking of consumables, maintaining a clean working environment. 
  • Communicates data and shares analytical findings in group meetings and project meetings. 
  • May assist in writing protocols, SOP and/or research reports. 
  • Adheres to Zymeworks standard procedures for generating, documenting, and archiving data, maintaining an accurate, up-to-date lab notebook or electronic notebook 
  • Conducts all activities in accordance with scientific standards, OS&H regulations and established Zymeworks policies and practices 

What You'll Bring

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or related discipline.  Availability for an 8-month co-op term is required. 
  • Basic knowledge in antibody/antigen purification by chromatography and biophysical characterizations. 
  • Basic working knowledge of antibody structure and function. 
  • Experience in using a biosafety cabinet with aseptic technique is an asset. 
  • Protein biochemistry and methods for protein characterization is an asset. 
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively as a member of cross-functional team. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
  • Good organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a high paced, fast changing environment. 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Good computer skills particularly with Excel and PowerPoint.
