About the role

American Kids Sports Center is seeking an experienced and highly organized Human Resources professional to serve as the primary on-site HR resource for a growing, multi-location youth sports organization.

This role manages the day-to-day HR function, supports employees and managers, and helps ensure consistent, compliant employment practices across the organization. The ideal candidate is confident handling employee relations, leaves, performance issues, recruiting, onboarding, benefits, HR systems, and California employment compliance in a fast-paced environment.

What you'll do

  • Maintain accurate, confidential employee personnel files, I-9 records, policy acknowledgments, training records, certifications, and employment documentation.
  • Administer HRIS processes, including employee updates, onboarding workflows, document storage, reporting, audits, and personnel changes.
  • Maintain HR calendars, required notices, compliance deadlines, and employee documentation standards.
  • Conduct periodic audits of personnel files, timekeeping records, compliance documentation, and required training completion.
  • Manage job postings, applicant communication, interview scheduling, reference checks, offers, pre-employment requirements, and onboarding.
  • Coordinate new-hire orientation, required training, policy acknowledgments, system access, and onboarding completion.
  • Partner with department leaders to identify staffing needs and ensure consistent hiring practices.
  • Manage off-boarding activities, including separation documentation, final-pay coordination, system updates, exit processes, and unemployment responses.
  • Serve as a primary HR contact for employees and managers.
  • Provide guidance regarding policies, attendance, timekeeping, performance expectations, PTO, benefits, workplace conduct, and routine employee concerns.
  • Support managers with coaching, attendance management, corrective action, written warnings, performance improvement plans, and documentation.
  • Independently manage routine employee-relations matters while maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Administer employee leave processes, including medical, pregnancy-related, bonding, personal, and other approved leaves.
  • Coordinate leave notices, medical certifications, deadlines, employee communication, and return-to-work requirements.
  • Support the interactive process for accommodation requests and maintain related records.
  • Coordinate medical restrictions, modified-duty assignments, fitness-for-duty documentation, and return-to-work plans.
  • Manage workers’ compensation documentation, restrictions, claim communication, and return-to-work follow-up.
  • Support benefit enrollment, qualifying life events, employee communications, eligibility tracking, and vendor coordination.
  • Assist with 401(k) enrollment, eligibility tracking, and employee communication.
  • Coordinate payroll-related employee changes, wage notices, PTO records, attendance documentation, and timekeeping corrections.
  • Prepare routine reports related to headcount, turnover, attendance, benefits, onboarding, and compliance.
  • Support compliance with applicable California and federal employment requirements.
  • Maintain required workplace posters, training records, acknowledgments, compliance calendars, and employee notices.
  • Coordinate harassment prevention, workplace violence prevention, safety, and company-required training.
  • Assist with handbook updates, policy revisions, HR forms, templates, workflows, and standard operating procedures.
  • Identify process gaps, documentation concerns, and compliance risks and provide recommendations to leadership.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in human resources, employee relations, recruiting, HR administration, or a related field.
  • California HR experience strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with employee relations, corrective action, onboarding, employee records, leaves, benefits administration, and HR compliance.
  • Working knowledge of California wage-and-hour practices, leave administration, workplace investigations, accommodations, and employment documentation.
  • Experience with HRIS platforms; Rippling experience is preferred.
  • Strong written communication, documentation, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, maintain confidentiality, and exercise sound judgment.
  • Comfortable working independently while recognizing when matters require escalation or consultation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, spreadsheets, and electronic recordkeeping systems.
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or similar HR certification preferred but not required.

Work Requirements

  • Ability to work primarily on-site and travel between AKSC locations as needed.
  • Ability to perform computer-based work, communicate effectively with employees and managers, and use standard office equipment.
  • Occasional availability outside normal business hours for orientations, employee meetings, investigations, or urgent operational needs may be required.

The pay range for this role is:

27 - 32 USD per hour (American Kids Sports Center: NW)
