The role is based at DroneShield’s central Sydney headquarters. Overseas on-the-ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Netherlands, Denmark, Mexico and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries worldwide. 


About the role

DroneShield is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join the team in Sydney, NSW. The position will report to Mechanical Engineering Lead. This role will be responsible for developing and sustaining DroneShield products, including SolidWorks CAD design, simulation / analysis, working with suppliers and testing.

Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • Bringing a practical and technical approach to mechanical engineering problem solving
  • Consulting with various teams to understand requirements
  • Developing mechanical solutions using SolidWorks
  • Conducting simulations for strength / stress, deflection, thermal performance
  • Producing and maintaining high quality manufacturing and assembly drawings
  • Liaising with suppliers to understand manufacturing capabilities and limitations
  • Creating accurate bill of materials
  • Writing test plans, conducting and / or overseeing testing for thermal / strength
  • Producing accurate and useful test reports that drive decision making
  • Troubleshooting issues at all stages of the product lifecycle
  • Developing and maintaining detailed records of design development, test results and decisions

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • Degree in Mechanical / Mechatronics / Aerospace engineering, or equivalent practical experience
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with other teams / disciplines
  • Ability to use theory / analysis / test results to drive good mechanical engineering decisions
  • Experience conducting FEA / CFD / thermal simulation preferred / highly regarded
  • SolidWorks and SolidWorks Simulation experience preferred / highly regarded
  • Experience solving thermal issues preferred / highly regarded
  • Experience with electronics or RF preferred / highly regarded
  • Experience with GD+T preferred / highly regarded
  • Design for manufacturing experience (CNC / plastic moulding / sheet-metal fabrication / 3D printing / welding) preferred / highly regarded
