Tax - Senior Associate

Graphite is a growing boutique finance, accounting & strategy firm built to help startups scale efficiently and sustainably. We were born out of a venture capital fund, ffVC, in NYC in 2008, supporting their early-stage portfolio of early-stage companies. In 2016, we began working with the broader startup community. We're seeking an experienced, process-driven Senior Associate to join our developing and expanding internal tax team. You will collaborate with our experienced team of finance and accounting professionals, working with our startup clients to manage their tax needs. The responsibilities of this position will require frequent interaction and collaboration with our team and clients. This role is an excellent opportunity for candidates who strongly desire to work with exciting and growing startup companies. This is a full-time position that is fully remote with a base salary range of $75,000-$95,000 annually based on experience. 


Some of what you’ll do:

  • Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and startup clients to help manage their tax needs, including R&D tax credit support
  • Planning, scheduling, and executing client engagements and proactively identifying potential obstacles and solutions
  • Prepare Federal and State income tax returns for Corporations, Partnerships and S-Corporations
  • Reviewing mid-level complexity Corporate, Partnership, and S-Corporation tax returns prepared by tax staff for accuracy
  • Managing multiple engagements concurrently with various teams to efficiently meet client deadlines
  • Stays abreast of tax law changes in the U.S. to manage risk and identify potential planning opportunities
  • Implementing tax planning opportunities
  • Handling and resolving tax controversies
  • Communicate with clients and tax authorities to represent clients as needed
  • Assess and research tax issues to identify solutions for current and onboarding clients as needed
  • Collaborate with our internal controller services teams to ensure smooth, timely delivery to clients
  • Assist as needed to complete ad-hoc projects 

Who are you:

  • 3-5 years of experience working in public accounting, with a focus on entity federal and state income tax compliance 
  • A CPA license and/or Enrolled Agent is preferred but not required
  • You have a Bachelor’s or Master's degree, from an accredited university majoring in accounting
  • Deep knowledge of tax code with demonstrated experience resolving complex tax issues
  • You are tech-savvy and adept at quickly understanding and utilizing both current and new software applications
  • Strong US federal and state tax technical knowledge with extensive tax compliance experience using tax software. (UltraTax and CCH experience are a plus)
  • R&D tax credit general knowledge a plus
  • Experience successfully running multiple projects and priorities simultaneously and can prioritize tasks and work efficiently towards completing them to meet all deadlines

The pay range for this role is:

75,000 - 95,000 USD per year (Remote (United States))
