About the Role

The Senior Accountant at Harbor Compliance is a pivotal role dedicated to ensuring the integrity and predictability of financial reporting for assigned entities. You will own the monthly close process end-to-end, producing accurate, audit-ready financials that serve as a trusted foundation for executive decision-making. By championing clean reconciliations and proactive workflow improvements, you will foster an environment where financial clarity is maintained through process excellence rather than manual effort.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the monthly close process, ensuring all financials are accurate, supported, and ready for executive review.
  • Maintain the health of the balance sheet through comprehensive monthly reconciliations and the timely resolution of any open items.
  • Manage the end-to-end sales tax process, ensuring accurate registration, reporting, and remittance.
  • Oversee revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 standards, providing clear evidence for all revenue and cash-related accounts.
  • Facilitate seamless financial transitions for new acquisitions, developing and executing integration plans within defined timeframes.
  • Ensure constant audit and lender readiness by delivering high-quality documentation and maintaining processes that result in zero repeat findings.
  • Implement at least two measurable process improvements every six months to enhance automation, standardization, and reporting speed.
  • Provide clear, plain-language financial guidance to cross-functional partners in Operations, Legal, and People teams to resolve inquiries efficiently.

Requirements

  • 3–6 years of progressive accounting experience, specifically focused on owning the month-end close process in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proven expertise in GAAP fundamentals, accrual accounting, and managing complex balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing sales tax compliance and reporting requirements across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Strong technical proficiency in QuickBooks or similar accounting systems, with the ability to adapt quickly to new ERP tools.
  • Advanced Excel and Google Sheets skills, including the ability to build structured models, pivot tables, and robust error-checking functions.
  • Experience supporting external audits or formal financial reviews with clean work-papers and organized documentation.
  • A track record of taking end-to-end ownership of projects, including setting clear timelines and delivering results with minimal supervision.
  • Commitment to operational excellence through the regular creation and maintenance of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Skills and Knowledge

  • Familiarity with SaaS or service-based business models, including multi-entity and deferred revenue concepts.
  • Experience with ERP implementation or the automation of manual accounting workflows.
  • Ability to translate complex financial data into actionable insights for non-finance stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of internal control frameworks and the maintenance of rigorous documentation for segregation of duties.
