About the role

Integrated Management Strategies (IMS) is an award-winning, fast-growing woman-owned small business in the Washington DC area, specializing in healthcare, technology, and management consulting. We are seeking an experienced Inpatient Rounds Coder to join our healthcare consulting practice. The role is fully remote within the US, with infrequent travel to client locations for onboarding and training. What you'll do

  • Accurately assign ICD-10 CM, E/M, ICD-10 PCS, CPT, HCPCS, modifiers and units based on provider and other qualified healthcare professional documentation, based on coding Guidance.
  • Coder must be able to maintain and follow applicable information that the DoD systems and/or software require for Inpatient Rounds.
  • Review and code for each Inpatient Rounds encounter within 14 business days of receipt of record/encounter. All deficiencies or identified needed information will be queried to the provider and communicate to the designated POC via email, managers will be copied on all email traffic within this required time. Coders are required to follow up daily to meet the compliance for each Inpatient Rounds encounter/record.  
  • Adhere to systems and standards required in multi-specialty medical coding encounters.
  • Process encounters within required SLA on contract with deficiencies identified escalated as necessary.
  • Review and respond to each audit within set time window, with corrections made immediately after final adjudication.
  • Complete training on all government systems, including all annual and short notice training.
  • Meet or surpass weekly Productivity and Quality targets.
  • Work independently with little to no supervision. Coordinate and collaborate with team members and follow directions provided by the Site Manager/Project Manager.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or higher degree.
  • Active coding certification credentials from AHIMA or AAPC such as CCS, CCS-P, CPC, RHIA, or RHIT. Initial and annual proof of active certification is required.
  • 3+ years of experience coding for Inpatient Rounds (will train for DOD requirements).
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain minimum accuracy rating of 97%
  • US Citizenship
  • Ability to secure a DOD security clearance, must not have been unfavorably removed from a government position
  • Experience with Microsoft Windows and Office 365 applications including Word, Excel, Teams and others.
  • Ability to work in a private and secure area while protecting PHI/PII and meeting HIPAA requirements.
  • Coder with past DOD experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with (Cerner/GENESIS), 3M 360 Encompass System (3M 360), JLV and other necessary, electronic and non-electronic hard copy files preferred. Training will be provided if needed.
