IT Operations Engineer

About MBRYONICS

MBRYONICS is at the forefront of free space optical communications. Our product portfolio covers a wide range of emerging technologies from photonic integrated circuits to advanced optical systems and embedded software solutions. Our optical communications systems are integrated and deployed in satellite communications systems. The work is exciting and challenging and is at the forefront of the technology domains. As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated IT Operations Engineer to join our group.

Support the reliable, secure operation of our infrastructure and networks across multiple sites. You will deliver day-to-day IT operation, acting as the primary driver for 1st/2nd line support and assisting with 3rd line escalations. You’ll manage the full device lifecycle, maintain identity services via Active Directory, and use automation/scripting to ensure our core services are scalable and secure-by-default.

Key Responsibilities

  • Device Lifecycle & Setups: Own the full onboarding/offboarding process; build, configure, and deploy high-performance workstations and laptops for new starters.
  • Administer firewall and remote access policies (SonicWall experience preferred).
  • Active Directory Administration: Manage users, groups, and OU structures; design and deploy Group Policy Objects (GPOs) to enforce security baselines and automate software deployment.
  • Automation & Scripting: Write and maintain scripts (PowerShell, Python, or Bash) to automate repetitive tasks, such as bulk user updates, log gathering, or system health checks.
  • Network Operations: Operate and improve local networks (VLANs, switching, Wi-Fi, VPN) and manage firewall/remote access policies (SonicWall preferred).
  • Infrastructure Health: Deliver patching/firmware updates for servers and network equipment; maintain and test backup/restore procedures.
  • Security Integration: Work with the security function on logging enablement (syslog forwarding, time sync) and endpoint hardening.
  • Documentation: Maintain real-time asset lists, network diagrams, and change records.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience in IT infrastructure and network support (TCP/IP, switching, VLANs, DHCP/DNS).
  • Strong practical knowledge of Active Directory and Group Policy, including troubleshooting replication and permission issues.
  • Proficiency in PowerShell (or equivalent) to automate system administration and data processing tasks.
  • Hands-on experience with device imaging, hardware upgrades, and workspace setups.
  • Comfortable following change control processes and documenting technical environments for a growing team.

Desirable

  • SonicWall administration experience.
  • Google Workspace administration exposure.
  • Experience with MDM tools (Intune, Jamf) for automated device provisioning.
  • Basic AWS networking familiarity.

What Success Looks Like (First 90 Days)

  • Month 1: Comprehensive audit of the device setup process and an updated inventory of all active hardware/assets.
  • Month 2: Review and cleanup of Active Directory (stale accounts, nested groups) and optimization of core GPOs.
  • Month 3: Introduction of at least one automated script to improve the efficiency of onboarding or patching routines.

Ongoing: Reliable patching cadence, documented backup evidence, and clear network/infrastructure diagrams.
