About Boston Legacy FC

Boston Legacy FC (the “Club”) is Boston’s new professional women’s soccer team, set to begin play in the National Women’s Soccer League in 2026. We are dedicated to building a championship-caliber organization on and off the pitch. We are passionate about advancing women’s sports, investing in our local community, and redefining the future of professional soccer. As a startup club with a big vision, we’re building from the ground up—and looking for entrepreneurial team members who want to be part of something extraordinary.

The Role

The Controller will serve as a key financial partner and hands-on operator, ensuring Boston Legacy FC’s financial integrity, accuracy, and compliance as the organization scales. Reporting to the Head of Finance, this role will oversee all accounting operations, establish sound financial controls, and support implementation of scalable systems and processes (including Intacct and a potential third-party AP solution).

This is a high-impact role in a small, fast-moving environment—ideal for someone who thrives in startup settings, is comfortable wearing multiple hats, and can turn ambiguity into structure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll reconciliation, and monthly close.
  • Maintain and enforce internal controls and ensure GAAP compliance across all financial reporting.
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and prepare financial statements and supporting analyses.
  • Partner with the Head of Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
  • Manage the implementation, configuration, and optimization of Intacct and other accounting systems.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax preparers, and third-party vendors to ensure timely and accurate filings.
  • Establish and maintain process documentation for accounting and finance workflows.
  • Support audit readiness, compliance reviews, and the development of financial policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a business partner to department leads, providing data-driven insights and reporting.
  • Help build scalable infrastructure as the club transitions from startup to full operational maturity.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with exposure to both startup and established organizational environments.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and financial systems implementation.
  • Hands-on experience with Intacct or similar ERP platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and adaptable—comfortable rolling up sleeves in a lean team setting.
