Assistant Controller

What You’ll Do 

  • Preparation and review of periodic financial reports in accordance with U.S. GAAP including statement of cash flows, equity and footnotes.
  • Lead and continuously improve the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, with a focus on speed, accuracy, and scalability
  • Partner with the VP of Finance / Controller to elevate the company’s internal control environment, including formalizing processes, documentation, and ongoing monitoring
  • Oversee general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and detailed variance analysis. Be the reviewer and approver for majority of account reconciliations/journal entries prepared by staff and senior accountants.
  • Preparer for more complex accounting areas including stock-based compensation expense, warrants, derivatives, lease accounting, acquisitions, etc.
  • Own the revenue recognition accounting with multiple performance obligations in accordance with ASC 606
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with FP&A, Legal, and external auditors to ensure alignment on technical accounting and reporting matters
  • Assist in the development and implementation of accounting policies aligned with a more complex operating environment
  • Play a key role in audit readiness, including preparation of supporting schedules and coordination with external auditors
  • Drive automation and system enhancements to support a more robust and scalable finance function
  • Support special projects related to organizational readiness, process standardization, and financial infrastructure buildout

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (CPA strongly preferred)
  • 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including public accounting (Big4 or national firm preferred), late stage VC-backed or Public Company experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and experience operating in complex reporting environments
  • Demonstrated experience improving close timelines and building scalable accounting processes
  • Experience supporting organizations through periods of rapid growth, increased scrutiny, or enhanced reporting requirements
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Experience with ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) and financial reporting tools
  • Experience working with government entities as customers preferred


Preferred 

  • Experience in environments transitioning to more formalized processes, controls, and reporting expectations
  • Track record of building or upgrading accounting infrastructure to support company scale
  • Ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a hands-on environment
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive, solutions-oriented mindset
  • Comfort navigating ambiguity and evolving priorities in a fast-paced setting

    Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Ability to sit, stand, bend, reach, climb, and move about regularly throughout the day and lift / carry up to 25 pounds. Must have manual dexterity to operate standard office or manufacturing equipment.

 

Work Environment 

This position typically operates in a standard office setting and manufacturing environment. This role requires use of standard office equipment This position may have exposure to outdoor weather conditions, noise, and non-climate-controlled environments. May require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) depending on the environment. This is a fast-paced work environment and requires cross departmental collaboration with independent and team-based responsibilities.
