About the role

• Qalam is seeking a motivated individual to serve as a Counseling Intern. This is a voluntary, unpaid internship intended for students or recent graduates interested in pastoral care, counseling, or related fields. The intern will gain experience in client intake, client management and follow‑up, and research assistance under the guidance of Shaykh Mikaeel.

What you'll do

• Assist with client intake, including scheduling appointments and gathering necessary information.
• Support client management and follow‑up, ensuring timely responses and coordination.
• Provide research assistance for program development or counseling cases.
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Qalam’s policies and procedures at all times.
• Uphold Qalam’s mission, values, and ethics in interactions with clients, staff, and community members.

Qualifications

• Interest in pastoral counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
• Good communication skills and a compassionate demeanor.
• Availability to work collaboratively with Shaykh Mikaeel and the Qalam team.

Time Commitment & Supervision

• Schedule and duties will be coordinated with and overseen by Shaykh Mikaeel.
• Flexibility is expected, and responsibilities may be adjusted as needed.

Confidentiality, NDA, and HIPAA Compliance

• The intern may have access to confidential or proprietary information and must not disclose or use this information outside of assigned duties without prior written consent.
• HIPAA regulations apply to any Protected Health Information (PHI) encountered. The intern must strictly comply with all applicable privacy and security policies, access PHI only as necessary, and immediately report any suspected breach of confidentiality.

Nature of Position

• This internship is unpaid and does not constitute an employment relationship with Qalam.
• No salary, wages, benefits, or other compensation will be provided.
• Either Qalam or the intern may end this internship at any time, with or without cause, by providing notice.
