FLSA Status: Exempt

Band: 8P

Reports to: Executive Director

Work Hours: Full-time (minimum 40 hours per week), including Sundays

Salary: $100,000-$120,000 / year

Date: March 1, 2026

Position Summary

Redeemer Lincoln Square (LSQ) is a congregation of 850 active congregants, the majority of whom are professional New Yorkers navigating one of the most post-Christian cultural environments in America. LSQ is in a significant moment of growth and expansion. An important cornerstone of our current 5-year strategic plan includes building out community engagement and evangelism.

In light of this, LSQ is seeking an Assistant Pastor to develop, execute, and lead the church's strategic vision for mission. The ideal candidate is someone who is equal parts theological architect and practitioner. The Assistant Pastor will work in collaboration with the Senior Pastor and ministry leaders in a team-based environment to translate vision into aligned ministry initiatives. This candidate must be deeply grounded in the gospel, culturally fluent in post-Christian urban contexts, and compelled by the conviction that the church exists for others.

Responsibilities
Evangelistic Strategy & Development
LSQ is committed to cultivating a church-wide culture of curious, relational evangelism. The Director of Mission and Outreach will lead this vision into implementation by developing and executing a comprehensive strategy that shifts congregational culture from passive attendance to active witness, equipping members to serve as the primary bridge between the Gospel and their networks.

  • Create, design, and lead The Evangelism Network (TEN) as a way for LSQ to equip evangelists in our church. TEN identifies, supports, and resources evangelistically oriented Christians (EOCs) — approximately 3% of the congregation — through in-person coaching, digital community, and curated content designed for a post-Christian context, while equipping the broader congregation to grow in missional posture.
  • Collaborate with the Discipleship Team to integrate evangelism training into the School of Christian Formation through cohorts, seminars, and classes to equip members for post-Christian relational evangelism focused on cultural narratives, common objections, and curious conversation rather than conventional presentation-based methods.
  • Coordinate evangelistic opportunities for Community Groups, Young Adults, and other ministries.
  • Oversee and facilitate the Missions Committee, comprised of elders and lay leaders, to steward financial support for gospel-minded partners, and facilitate short-term mission trips.

Evangelistic Programming

LSQ is a church that values questions and the people who ask them. This role will design and lead structured, repeatable outreach pathways that invite skeptics and seekers into thoughtful exploration of the Christian faith and create clear next steps for ongoing connection within LSQ.

  • Select, develop, and oversee an evangelism course (e.g., Alpha, The Story) aligned with LSQ’s theological convictions, creating intentional space for skeptics and seekers and establishing clear next-step pathways for continued engagement.
  • Recruit and develop lay leaders and hosts to support evangelistic programs and follow-up.
  • Track and celebrate stories of gospel conversations and conversions.
  • Work with the Hospitality and Connections Manager to integrate seekers and those professing faith for the first time into the life of LSQ, including community groups, membership, and other ongoing discipleship opportunities.

Mercy and Justice Community Engagement

Expand LSQ’s mercy and justice footprint in its local and surrounding neighborhoods, as well as across New York City when appropriate. The Director of Mission and Outreach will provide pastoral and strategic leadership for LSQ’s community engagement, mercy ministry, and local justice partnerships, working in collaboration with the Community Engagement Specialist.

  • In collaboration with the Community Engagement Specialist, oversee the development and stewardship of strategic partnerships with community organizations, cultivating relationships that serve our neighborhoods and greater city, including but not limited to:
    • 2–3 significant partnerships serving the Lincoln Square community (e.g., Amsterdam Houses, Goddard Riverside)
    • 2–3 significant partnerships serving the Hell’s Kitchen community (e.g., St. Paul’s House)
    • 4-6 significant community partnerships intentionally serving the broader needs of New York City (e.g., The Bowery Mission, Do For One, Safe Families)
  • Work with Hope for New York (HFNY) to ensure effective communication, promotion, and integration of their initiatives within our congregation.
  • In collaboration with the Community Engagement Specialist, provide strategic oversight of LSQ’s mission and community engagement efforts, including, but not limited to:
    • Launch and scale mission and community engagement initiatives that mobilize time-constrained urban professionals into meaningful service.
    • Develop and implement strategies to recruit, train, and sustain long-term volunteers, moving engagement from event-based participation to ongoing relational service.
    • Ensure the development and coordination of community engagement opportunities across Community Groups, Young Adults, and other ministries.
  • Serve on and provide pastoral leadership to the Community Engagement Advisory Committee.
  • Collaborate with the Discipleship Team to integrate theological and practical training in justice and mercy into the School of Christian Formation through cohorts, seminars, and classes.

Preaching, Teaching, Pastoral Care

  • Preach up to 20-25% of Sundays as directed by the Senior Pastor, based on ability and church needs. Must demonstrate theological depth, cultural awareness, and the ability to engage Manhattan's skeptics.
  • Lead worship services as assigned, embodying pastoral presence and liturgical leadership.
  • Teach membership classes in addition to cohorts, classes, and seminars.
  • Partner with pastors, the pastoral care team, and the Session to provide pastoral care, contribute to church discipline cases, serve on the Safeguarding Team, and offer prayer and support to the congregation.
  • Provide pastoral oversight and development of mission-focused leaders within LSQ’s leadership pipeline, including RAMP apprentices, ministry interns, leadership cohorts, and mentoring relationships.
  • Teach and pastor the weekly LSQ cohort of the Faith and Work Gotham Fellowship as needed.
