About the role

The Sr. Director, People Technology & Transformation role is the primary architect and executive lead for Riot Platforms’ enterprise-wide HR technology ecosystem. This role is responsible for the strategic design, hands-on implementation, and continuous optimization of all systems supporting the employee lifecycle. Reporting to the SVP, People Operations, the incumbent serves as a critical bridge between People Operations, IT, and Finance, ensuring that the HR tech stack is a scalable, high-performance engine that supports Riot’s growth and operational complexity.

 

This is a transformation-focused leadership role that requires a rare blend of high-level strategic vision and deep technical "hands-on" proficiency. The leader is accountable for bringing together legacy system silos and replacing them with a cohesive, integrated, and data-driven infrastructure. Success in this role is defined by the ability to deliver iterative, high-impact technical solutions, ensuring that people data is a strategic asset for the entire enterprise.

Essential Functions

  • Strategic Leadership & Governance
  • Develop and execute a multi-year People Technology strategy that prioritizes scalability and organizational agility.
  • Lead the strategic evaluation and selection of enterprise People Technology platforms, conducting comprehensive gap analyses of current systems to determine "optimize vs. replace" strategies that align with Riot’s long-term scalability.
  • Establish and chair a cross-functional People Technology Governance Council (HR, IT, Finance, Ops) to set enterprise standards and manage system investment priorities.
  • Partner with IT to ensure HR system integrations align with broader organizational technology strategy and infrastructure requirements.
  • Drive digital transformation initiatives, focusing on automation, AI-driven insights, and the elimination of manual HR processes.

 

Hands-On Platform & Integration Management

  • Serve as the technical owner for the HCM, ATS, LMS, and all downstream people-related applications.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership in whiteboarding integration flows, auditing system configurations, and managing complex data exchanges.
  • Collaborate with Finance and ERP teams to maintain a robust data bridge between HR and Finance systems, ensuring accuracy in headcount, cost allocations, and compensation modeling.
  • Evaluate and implement enterprise integration platforms to enhance cross-application functionality and data accessibility.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of vendor relationships, from initial market scan and technical RFP leadership to contract negotiation and ensuring SLAs meet performance and connectivity standards.

 

Data Governance, Operations & Analytics

  • Define and enforce rigorous data governance, security standards, and privacy protocols (e.g., SOC2, GDPR) across the HRIS portfolio.
  • Design and manage a tiered support model to provide high-quality system administration and end-user support for both corporate and field-based teams.
  • Drive data analytics maturity by defining requirements for self-service reporting, dashboards, and predictive analytics to support strategic workforce planning.
  • Oversee system administration, release management, and the continuous improvement of existing People Technology platforms.

 

Change Management & Adoption

  • Lead technology adoption initiatives to deliver iterative improvements aligned with organizational goals.
  • Partner with Learning & Development team to develop training and communication strategies that ensure high user adoption across all systems.
  • Foster a culture of experimentation and agility, constantly iterating on system design based on user feedback and operational metrics. 

Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • A minimum of 12 years experience integrating HR systems across the employee lifecycle within complex organizations.
    • Proven track record of leading large-scale, enterprise-wide system transformations in a complex, systems-heavy environment, with a strong focus on change management, automation, and analytics to drive business outcomes.
    • Highly skilled in leveraging HR technology to enable operational excellence, innovation, and enhanced user experience.
    • Deep expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing operating models that deliver measurable improvements in performance, efficiency, service quality, and compliance.
    • Deep knowledge of governance, compliance, and risk management at scale, particularly within a HR context.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Technical Fluency: Ability to speak the language of developers and engineers and translate across business functions.
    • Exceptional Stakeholder Management: Ability to translate complex technical architecture into business outcomes for executive leadership, ensuring alignment across diverse and senior stakeholders.
    • Strong Financial Acumen: Extensive experience managing and optimizing budgets and demonstrating ROI on operational investments
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related technical field; advanced degree preferred.
