About the role

The Crane and Lifting Technical Authority serves as the subject matter expert for all crane and lifting operations across the U.S., with primary focus on the MCE business.
This role sets standards, governs execution, and partners closely with field teams, suppliers, and EHS to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient lifting operations.

Reporting to the MCE Leader, this is a high-impact authority role with significant field engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the technical authority for crane and lifting operations, including equipment selection, lift planning, and execution.
  • Develop, document, and socialize a comprehensive interface management plan across business functions.
  • Establish and maintain Lifting Practice guidelines, procedures, standards, libraries, and risk assessments (cranes, forklifts, tailing operations).
  • Ensure every lift has an appropriate level of documented lift planning that is reviewed, available, and utilized.
  • Provide technical guidance and review for critical and complex lift plans.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify compliance with internal standards and external regulations.
  • Co-lead lifting-related incident investigations with EHS and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Coordinate transparently with customers and third parties during incident investigations.
  • Train and mentor field personnel and project managers on lifting best practices.
  • Partner with EHS, engineering, training, competency, and operations teams to drive continuous improvement.
  • Define supplier lifting expectations during RFPs and validate compliance prior to award.
  • Lead a quarterly crane supplier community of practice to share lessons learned and best practices.
  • Provide quarterly technical and performance feedback to crane supplier relationship owners.
  • When required, oversee crane offload, assembly, and demobilization activities.
  • Validate lifting equipment and rigging inspections at active sites.
  • Coordinate third-party, state-specific PE engineering reviews when necessary.
  • Ensure logistics, ground conditions, and pad readiness for successful Hook Ready dates.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and/or
  • 8+ years of experience in crane and lifting operations, preferably in wind or heavy industrial environments.

Skills & Competencies

  • Deep technical expertise in crane operations (multiple brands), rigging, and complex lifting.
  • Strong working knowledge of OSHA, ASME, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
  • High capability in risk assessment and engineering judgment.

Certifications

  • Lift Director certification or equivalent (preferred).
  • Rigging certification (required).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in outdoor and industrial environments.
  • Comfortable around heavy equipment and active construction sites.

Working Conditions

  • Remote-based role with up to 75% travel to project sites and regional offices.
