About selfpublishing.com
At selfpublishing.com, we help purpose-driven people turn their ideas into bestselling booksâand those books into movements that change lives. Weâve helped thousands of authors publish, launch, and grow their impact, reaching millions of readers worldwide.
Our mission is bold: Help 100,000 people publish a book by 2035. Weâve been named to the INC 5000 list four times, and weâre just getting started. Weâre looking for a Director of Operations who is obsessed with revenue retention, financial clarity, and "GSD" (Getting Stuff Done). If youâre a high-EQ operator who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to be the "Integrator" to our visionâthis is your dream role.
In-Person | Austin, TX | Performance-Driven Leadership
The Role đ ïž
As our Director of Operations, you are the heartbeat of our business engine. You aren't just managing "stuff"âyou are protecting our bottom line. This role is a unique hybrid of financial strategy and high-stakes negotiation.
You will lead our refund prevention efforts (turning "saves" into raving fans), own our Accounts Receivable (A/R) to ensure no dollar is left behind, and lead our finance team to provide the CEO with crystal-clear P&L visibility. You are the "Right Hand" who streamlines our operations so we can scale from "respected" to "world-class."
What Youâll Be Doing đ
- Revenue Retention: Stepping into high-level customer escalations to resolve issues, prevent refunds, and keep authors on the path to success.
- Cash Collection & A/R: Owning the system for collecting outstanding balances and managing past-due accounts with a firm but fair "closer" mentality.
- Financial Leadership: Managing our bookkeeping function, mastering the P&L, and ensuring the CEO has accurate, real-time data to make strategic decisions.
- Operational Excellence: Identifying bottlenecks in our workflows and building the SOPs and systems needed to kill inefficiency.
- Team Leadership: Serving as a primary leader in our Austin office, setting the standard for effort, attitude, and accountability.
The Type of Person Who Thrives Here đ
- You Have a "Closer" Mentality: You aren't afraid of a tough phone call. You have the sales chops to "sell" a student on staying in the program and the grit to collect whatâs owed.
- You are Financially Fluent: You can read a P&L like a storybook. You understand cash flow, margins, and the difference between "profit" and "cash in the bank."
- You are a Systems Architect: You love the challenge of taking a messy process and turning it into a streamlined, automated machine.
- You Have High EQ: You can lead a team, earn the respect of our authors, and speak the language of both "empathy" and "results."
- You are "In-Office" Driven: You thrive on the energy of a local team and want to be on-site at our West Lake Hills office 5 days a week.
Required Experience â
- 3-5+ years in Operations or Financial Management (Director level or high-level "Right Hand").
- Proven track record in Sales or Collections (you must be able to "save" a deal).
- Deep experience with P&L management and working with bookkeepers/accountants.
- Experience in a high-growth, fast-paced "Traction/EOS" or similar environment.
What Youâll Get đ
- Competitive Base Salary (80,000-120,000 depending on experience) + Performance-Based Bonus (tied to Revenue Retention/AR).
- Unlimited Books: We practice what we preachâread as much as you want!
- Self-Care Budget: Monthly budget for massages, house cleaning, and wellness.
- The chance to help 100,000 authors share their stories with the world.
