We’re Sharp Performance
Sharp Performance is transforming mental wellness for those in high-demand professions, starting with public safety.
Our mission is to extend the service-life and health span of those who run toward danger: law enforcement, firefighters, and other frontline professionals. Through our mobile platform, we connect them with elite performance coaches trained in cognitive performance methods adapted from the U.S. Special Operations community.
This is not a lifestyle brand. This is not “tech for tech’s sake.”
This is applied resilience, delivered where it matters most.
We’re backed by Andreessen Horowitz (a16z) and investors behind Uber, Airbnb, PayPal, and Palantir. Partnerships are forming weekly. The mission is expanding quickly.
We are early. We are building. And success is not guaranteed.
If that excites you more than it scares you, then let’s go.
The Opportunity
We’re hiring a Product Designer to own the Sharp mobile app, the primary touchpoint between our platform and the members who depend on it.
At this stage of the company, the mobile experience is how members understand our value. This role shapes that experience.
You will own every screen, flow, and interaction. You will partner closely with Product and Engineering; not as a downstream executor, but as a design voice in the room before decisions are made. Reporting to our Senior UX Designer, you’ll bring strong visual craft and sound product judgment, and you’ll use AI as a natural multiplier at every stage of your process.
This is not a role for someone who waits for briefs. It’s for someone who sees the problem clearly and moves. Someone empathetic, proactive, and experimental.
If we succeed, it will be because our members feel the value of Sharp beyond the coaching session itself: in their daily habits, in their personal development, in the increased quality of life it brings them. This role sits at the center of that effort.
What You’ll Own
- Mobile Experience Ownership: Own the Sharp app end-to-end: every screen, flow, and interaction. Set and maintain a high standard for how the product looks, feels, and functions. Think holistically across contextual jobs to be done (choose a coach, book a session) and lifecycle moments (activation, retention, winback). Always be a champion for our members and their experience.
- Engineering Partnership: Stay ahead of the roadmap so engineering is never blocked waiting on the right designs. Deliver clean, complete, handoff-ready Figma specs that minimize back-and-forth and surface states and edge cases before development begins. Design with feasibility in mind without compromising the experience.
- Engagement Beyond the Session: Go beyond the session itself. Design features, flows, and touchpoints that keep members connected to Sharp throughout their week, building habit, reinforcing progress, and deepening their relationship with the product. The goal: the app earns a place in members’ daily routines, not just their calendars.
- AI-Augmented Practice: Integrate AI tools into every stage of your design process. Default to AI-first for exploration, prototyping, and generating options before going deep on manual work. This is not occasional use; it’s fluency. You will set a visible example for what AI-augmented design looks like at Sharp.
- Design Voice in Planning: Show up early to product conversations and bring a design point of view before decisions are locked. Flag potential issues upstream and build trust across Product and Engineering so design shapes what we build, not just how it looks.
Who Thrives Here
Sharp and this role is not for everyone. You will likely thrive if you:
- Have ~5 years of design experience, with meaningful time on consumer (B2C) products; mobile app experience is required
- Have a portfolio that demonstrates strong visual craft, sound product thinking, and thoughtful interaction design
- Are proficient in Figma; you build clean, handoff-ready files that engineers can actually use
- Integrate AI tools into your daily design workflow as a natural habit, not a novelty
- Have startup experience and are comfortable moving fast, owning a broad scope, and making decisions with incomplete information
- Are highly collaborative: you work well with PM, engineering, and leadership without needing to be closely managed
- Can articulate your design decisions clearly: you bring conviction, and you can explain your thinking without a deck
- Are based in LA and able to work in-person from our Culver City office
- Feel genuine respect for military, law enforcement, firefighters, and others who operate under pressure
