About the role

The Scrum Master owns the delivery engine. You are responsible for the health, velocity, and predictability of sprint execution across one or more engineering teams. You protect the team from process debt, facilitate every Agile ceremony with rigor, and ensure that commitments made in sprint planning are visible, tracked, and accounted for at sprint close.

This is not a coordinator role and not a project manager role. You are the system owner for how work moves — and you are accountable for the artifacts that prove it.

What you'll do

Sprint Ceremonies

  • Sprint Planning: confirm ticket readiness before the meeting; facilitate capacity planning; ensure the team commits to a realistic sprint goal
  • Daily Standup: surface blockers same-day; update ticket status in real time
  • Sprint Review: demo completed work against acceptance criteria; invite relevant stakeholders; document what shipped
  • Retrospective: prepare a structured agenda; schedule and facilitate, synthesizing themes and publishing action items with owners/due dates in timely fashion
  • Backlog Refinement: co-facilitate with Product Team to ensure tickets entering the next sprint are groomed, estimated, and acceptance-criteria-complete

Sprint Reporting

  • Publish a Sprint Midweek Executive Report with progress by ticket, blockers, confidence call per assignee (On Track / At Risk / Off Track)
  • Publish a Sprint Executive Report at sprint close: committed vs. delivered, carryover with root cause, and a plain-language summary for non-technical stakeholders
  • Publish Sprint Release Notes for every release — written for business audiences
  • Maintain a sprint velocity tracker; surface trends in monthly review

Backlog & Ticket Health

  • Enforce ticket readiness gates: no ticket enters a sprint without a user story, acceptance criteria, estimate, and assigned owner
  • Flag and escalate stale, blocked, or criteria-incomplete tickets before sprint planning
  • Track carryover rigorously: every rolled ticket gets a documented reason and a clean close date
  • Work with Product Team to maintain a healthy sprint backlog — groomed in advance of sprint

Blocker & Risk Management

  • Own the blockers log: every blocker is documented with owner, date identified, and resolution path
  • Escalate unresolved blockers within 24 hours of identification
  • Surface scope creep and mid-sprint additions; working with Product team to formally assess impact before accepting
  • Run a weekly dependency check across squads; flag cross-team risks proactively

Team Health & Accountability

  • Track individual assignee commitments across sprints; surface patterns (eg repeated carryover, underestimation, scope avoidance) in retros and 1:1s
  • Conduct brief end-of-sprint check-ins with each team member: what did you commit to, what did you ship, what got in the way
  • Partner with Product team on team health signals: velocity, WIP limits, cycle time, and sprint predictability

Process Improvement

  • Own and keep current the sprint process documentation: playbooks, ceremony agendas, reporting templates, and escalation protocols
  • Conduct a quarterly process audit: what is slowing the team down, what ceremonies are rote vs. valuable
  • Benchmark sprint health metrics quarter-over-quarter; present findings with recommendations
  • Identify and eliminate recurring process friction before it becomes a sprint risk

Qualifications

  • 2+ years as a Scrum Master or Agile Delivery Lead, running sprint ceremonies end-to-end
  • Hold a CSM, PSM I/II, or equivalent certification and can speak to the principles behind the
