Job Purpose

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be the primary architect and operator of the digital foundation that powers VulcanForms’ manufacturing operations. You will deploy and maintain the orchestration platforms—specifically leveraging Kubernetes and Nomad—that host our mission-critical applications. Your goal is to simplify, standardize, secure, and scale the applications that support our manufacturing operations across multiple sites.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage production-grade container orchestration clusters using Kubernetes and HashiCorp Nomad.
  • Act as the design authority for cloud-native infrastructure, ensuring high availability for 24/7 manufacturing environments.
  • Build out Infrastructure as Code (IaC) resources to automate environment provisioning, deployment, and service management.
  • Implement comprehensive logging, tracing, and monitoring (Prometheus/Grafana) to ensure deep visibility into system health and performance.
  • Partner with Software and Data teams to architect secure, low-latency integrations between edge manufacturing hardware and cloud-based control planes.
  • Lead the implementation of secure service-to-service communication, secret management (Vault), and centralized identity (OIDC/SSO).

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Platform, SRE, or DevOps Engineering with a focus on distributed systems in Linux environments.
  • Proven experience managing Kubernetes and/or Nomad clusters at scale with Helm and/or Nomad Pack-based deployments.
  • Strong proficiency in Terraform, Pulumi, or Ansible to manage infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Python or Go for building custom operators, service integrations, or platform automation.
  • Cloud-Native Networking: Solid understanding of service networking (e.g. Consul, Cilium), load balancing, and securing edge-to-cloud traffic.
  • CI/CD Leadership: Experience managing diverse deployment pipelines and software development lifecycle services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience running containerized workloads on "bare metal" or edge devices in an industrial/factory setting.
  • Experience managing persistent storage for stateful workloads (e.g., S3, Ceph).
  • Knowledge of MQTT, OPC-UA, or other industrial protocols and how they interface with modern cloud platforms.
  • Experience with hybrid and multi-cloud architectures as well as cloud/service migrations.
