Regular Duties

Building community is what we do, and making sure that students feel comfortable being themselves is integral to that. Our team of Neighbourhood Leaders help to ensure that our HOEMies (yes, that’s what we call our amazing residents!) settle into living at HOEM and have someone to connect with if they need support.

Successful candidates are expected to be comfortable dealing with difficult and high-pressure situations including but not limited to mental health crisis, roommate conflict, physical health concerns, and facility related concerns.

We’re a team of people who does whatever it takes, so there will be other duties that you are assigned in your role with us that don’t fit nicely into this list.

Our Neighbourhood Leaders are approachable, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport so students feel comfortable approaching them for support.

At the end of the contract term, success in this position will look like:

  • Strong sense of community: HOEMies in your neighbourhood will report feeling a strong sense of belonging, attributing it to the safe and welcoming environment you created.
  • High student satisfaction: student feedback reflects high satisfaction and feeling supported by you, reflecting positive experience and meaningful connections.
  • Reliable and organized leadership: You consistently demonstrate punctuality, organization, and effective time management during on-call shifts, ensuring efficient student support.
  • Confident crisis support: you feel equipped to handle any student crisis with empathy, critical thinking, and clear communication, providing timely and effective support.
  • Confident communication skills: You’ll demonstrate the ability to effectively use written and verbal communication to respond to a variety of inquiries with clarity and professionalism.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities: You’ll be able to apply critical thinking and communication skills to confidently assess situations and resolve issues effectively.
