About the role

Yaqeen Institute is seeking a meticulous and knowledgeable Research Verification Associate to support the Research Department by ensuring the technical accuracy and religious integrity of its content. Reporting to the Director of Religious Scholarly Advancement and Integrity Assurance, this contractor will focus on the technical verification of religious texts and the strengthening of evidentiary support within research and multimedia content.

This role is operational and support-focused, suitable for a junior scholar or researcher with strong technical skills in Islamic sciences who can ensure that all citations and framings meet the institute’s standards of rigor and orthodoxy. Note that the percentage breakdown is an approximate, long-term target distribution and is expected to shift seasonally with institutional priorities.

What you'll do

Technical Verification and Sourcing (80%)

• Source Verification: Conduct line-by-line technical reviews of manuscripts, articles, blogs, and multimedia scripts to verify the accuracy of all religious citations.
• Quran & Hadith Review:
• • Verify the accuracy of Quranic verses (Arabic text and translation) against standard approved translations.
  • Check Hadith citations for accuracy in wording and grading (authenticity), ensuring they are sourced from reliable collections.
• Scholarly Quotations: Locate and verify primary source references for statements attributed to classical and contemporary scholars to ensure they are quoted contextually and accurately.
• Style & Formatting: Ensure all transliteration and citation styles for religious texts align strictly with the Yaqeen Institute style guide

Content Framing & Evidentiary Support (20%)

• Strengthening Arguments: Review content drafts to identify sections where valid points are made but supported by weak, ambiguous, or less ideal evidence.
• Proposing Alternatives: Proactively propose religiously appropriate framings and stronger evidence (e.g., more relevant Quranic verses, authentic Hadith, or established scholarly legal precedents) to better substantiate the author’s arguments.
• Feedback Implementation: Provide clear, constructive, and actionable notes to researchers and content creators regarding technical corrections and evidentiary improvements.

Qualifications

• Educational Background: Degree in Islamic Studies or equivalent traditional training, evidenced through appropriate qualifications and command of subject matter including Hadith sciences and source verification.
• Technical Skills:
• Fluency in Arabic (reading and research) is required to access primary sources.
• Proficiency in utilizing digital Islamic libraries and research tools (e.g., Shamela, Dorar).
• Attention to Detail: Exceptional ability to spot minor errors in diacritics, translation, or citation numbers.
• Collaborative Mindset: Ability to provide feedback tactfully to senior writers and creators
