Prototype Engineer, Robotics

About Mytra

We’re creating an entirely new way to solve the most ubiquitous problem in industry - moving and storing material. We’re applying robotics and distributed software to create a new class of product for this $1T market. We’re focused on the supply chain industry first. The industry is in a massive bind with the continued growth of e-commerce, sharp rise in costs, and supply chain disruptions. What has been a “sleepy” industry for decades is now at the epicenter of sustaining the global economy.

Prototype Engineer, Robotics

Mytra’s Mechanical Engineering team is seeking a hands-on Prototype Engineer to join our team, where you'll apply engineering principles to solve complex, real-world challenges in robotic automation. This role applies an engineering mindset to a broad range of hands-on tasks, focusing on problem solving, prototyping, applied design for manufacturing (DFM), and failure analysis. You'll tackle unique operational challenges that require developing safe procedures for equipment access and movement in constrained environments, creating electrical system prototypes, and conducting field troubleshooting of complex systems directly at customer sites. The ideal candidate combines strong mechanical aptitude with field engineering experience to deliver practical solutions in dynamic warehouse environments.

Role Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement solutions for complex operational challenges, including safe procedures for equipment access, movement, and positioning in constrained environments.
  • Conduct failure analysis and troubleshoot complex electro-mechanical system both in-lab and on-site at customer locations, providing rapid resolution and developing preventive solutions.
  • Debug, calibrate and tune electro-mechanical systems to meet performance objectives and provide feedback to improve designs.
  • Apply design for manufacturing (DFM) principles to prototype development, ensuring scalable and cost-effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to translate field insights into improved product designs and processes.
  • Perform hands-on fabrication and machine tool work to create custom solutions and repair components.
  • Support field engineering activities and provide technical expertise during customer deployments.

Preferred Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in prototype engineering, field engineering, manufacturing engineering, or related hands-on engineering roles
  • Experience with machine shop operations, fabrication techniques, and prototype manufacturing
  • Experience with equipment positioning, material handling, and mechanical systems in industrial environments
  • Knowledge of automation systems, industrial wiring, and electrical troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with robotics systems, sensors, and control systems in warehouse or manufacturing environments
  • CAD proficiency for design modifications, documentation, and prototype development
  • Experience conducting failure analysis and root cause investigations on mechanical systems
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with a practical, engineering-focused approach
  • Ability to work independently in customer environments and adapt to unique site challenges
  • Ability to assess risk and develop safe, compliant procedures for complex industrial operations

The pay range for this role is:

120,000 - 160,000 USD per year (Mytra, Inc.)
