Kraken Robotics is currently seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Junior Test Engineer (EIT) to join our New Product Introduction and Improvement (NPI&I) team, with a focus on design for testing and supporting production of electro-mechanical assemblies for defence applications. This role is part of the Production Support Team, which includes Manufacturing Engineers/Technicians/Technologists, and Test Engineers/Technologists, and Automation Specialists.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing input on the testability of product, and the design of testing stations and fixtures to support successful and efficient qualification Kraken’s products. The successful candidate will act as one of the primary support functions for the Production team and will be responsible for troubleshooting production issues and pursuing Product and Process Improvements that support efficient, high-quality, and repeatable designs.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Support the development of design for test (DFT) processes for defence-grade electro-mechanical assemblies, ensuring they meet technical, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Work under the direction of Discipline, Manufacturing, and Test Engineering functions to optimize product designs for manufacturability and testability, including design of fixtures and test stations, defining testing procedures, and evaluation of ergonomic / efficient workstation layouts (including tooling requirements).
  • Participate in Material Review Board (MRB) meetings as a stakeholder, providing input on the production impact of electrical non-conformances. Providing supporting by preparing dispositions, actioning corrective action plans, and liaising with Engineering as required to resolve issues.
  • When non-conformances are attributed to design-for-manufacturing (DFM) or design for test (DFT) issues, execute design updates or redlines to support timely resolution.
  • Develop and maintain process documentation including Test Instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), workmanship standards, and visual aids under the direction of senior resources.
  • Provide support to production teams in troubleshooting assembly challenges and implementing corrective actions.
  • Assist with pilot builds and support low-rate initial production (LRIP) efforts to validate testing and provide feedback for design iteration.
  • Coordinate with Quality and Engineering to ensure compliance with internal and external standards. Support training of production and quality personnel on updated testing procedures, tooling, test fixtures, and process changes.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical / Mechatronics Engineering or a related field with 0-3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the defense, aerospace, or other high-reliability sectors.
  • Understanding of electro-mechanical assembly practices, technical drawings, and IPC industry standards. Experience of troubleshooting and debugging electro-mechanical systems ideal but not required.
  • Experience participating in Material Review Board or similar technical review forums is a plus.
  • Exposure to developing cable, wiring harness, and system diagrams, as well as experience with related CAD packages required.
  • Exposure to PCB Design, testing, and validation, as well as experience with related CAD packages required.
  • Experience with LabView considered an asset.
  • Exposure to electromechanical design, development of test fixtures, and implementation of testing apparatus in production environments.
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles considered a plus but not required.
  • Strong collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills in a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Proficiency with MS Office; familiarity with ERP, MES, and digital documentation systems.
  • Familiarity with configuration control processes and change management systems. Exposure to generating redlines, conducting peer reviews, and running design review sessions considered an asset.
