Position Summary
· The Quality Control Manager oversees all inspection, measurement, welding inspection, and nondestructive testing (NDT) activities. This includes direct leadership of the Inspection Department, the Welding Inspection function, and the Magnetic Particle (MT) laboratory. The role ensures compliance with ISO 9001:2015, customer technical data packages (TDPs), QAPs, internal procedures, and contractual requirements. This position is focused on Quality Control execution—managing inspectors, weld inspectors, and NDT/MT personnel—ensuring accurate product verification, proper documentation, and effective communication with Production.
Quality Control Operations – Inspections, Welding, and NDT
· Lead and manage all QC personnel performing dimensional inspection, welding inspection, and NDT/MT testing, ensuring consistent application of measurement methods, GD&T interpretation, and acceptance criteria.
· Oversee daily QC workflow planning, priority setting, and throughput management across incoming, in‑process, welding, MT, and final inspection activities.
· Ensure weld inspection activities comply with applicable standards (e.g., AWS D1.1) and that all weld inspection records, defect documentation, and welder qualification verifications are accurate and complete.
· Oversee Magnetic Particle (MT) operations, ensuring technicians follow approved procedures, maintain proper process controls (UV intensity, chemical concentration, equipment functionality), and document results accurately.
· Maintain training, certification, and competency requirements for inspectors, weld inspectors, and MT Level I/II personnel, ensuring qualification records remain current.
· Ensure all inspection-related equipment—including dimensional gages, weld inspection tools, MT equipment, and measurement instruments—remains calibrated, traceable, and compliant with QMS requirements.
· Review and validate inspection, weld, and MT results; escalate discrepancies; and ensure accurate documentation feeds into NCR/MRB processes when nonconformances are identified.
Measurement Systems & Calibration Management
· Oversee calibration of all gages, MT equipment measurement tools, weld inspection instruments, and other measurement devices.
· Ensure calibration traceability, record accuracy, and systematic scheduling across QC assets.
· Lead Measurement System Analysis (MSA) in collaboration with Engineering, including Gage R&R, for equipment used within Inspection, Welding Inspection, and NDT/MT.
· Implement improvements and upgrades to ensure measurement accuracy across all QC functions.
QC Operations & Product Verification
· Ensure compliance with all TDPs, QAPs, drawings, acceptance criteria, and contractual inspection requirements for parts and assemblies.
· Maintain robust in-process inspection checkpoints and provide real-time feedback to machining, welding, and assembly teams.
· Ensure final inspection performs thorough verification before product release and that records are accurate, timely, and complete.
· Ensure Welding Inspection and MT teams follow documented work instructions and inspection procedures.
Nonconformance Management (QC Execution)
· Lead MRB for nonconformance evaluation, welding discrepancies, and NDT/MT indications.
· Ensure NCRs are accurately documented per QMS requirements with clear descriptions, photos, measurement results, and testing evidence.
· Implement containment actions and provide inspection data to support root cause analysis (RCA).
· Track defect trends across machining, welding, assembly, suppliers, and NDT findings.
QC Data, Reporting & Continuous Improvement
· Track and report QC metrics including FPY, weld defect rates, MT reject rates, rework trends, equipment calibration compliance, and inspection throughput.
· Implement SPC at critical checkpoints where statistical monitoring is beneficial.
· Support internal audits related to QC functions and ensure proper digital records within the Digital QMS.
Supplier Quality Control (Execution)
· Manage incoming inspection for purchased components, including dimensional, weld-related, or NDT-relevant characteristics.
· Identify recurring supplier defects and report trends to Supply Chain; verify supplier-welded or NDT-tested items meet acceptance criteria.
Customer & Government Interface
· Prepare components and documentation for source inspections, including weld inspection records and MT reports.
· Represent the QC function during customer or government audits in welding, inspection, and NDT areas, providing objective measurement and NDT data as required.
Authority & Escalation
· Hold/Release Authority: Authorized to place product, processes, or lots on quality hold and to release product only after objective evidence demonstrates conformity to requirements.
· Stop-Work Authority: Empowered to stop work immediately when safety, compliance, or product integrity is at risk, and to initiate containment and notification per procedure.
· MRB Chair: Chairs or co-chairs the Material Review Board for disposition of nonconforming material, including welding and NDT-related discrepancies.
· Certification & Qualification Control: Approves inspector, weld inspector, and MT Level I/II assignment to work based on verified training, certification, and proficiency; may suspend qualifications pending retraining.
· Escalation Path: Escalates unresolved or systemic quality issues to the Director of Manufacturing and Quality leadership; coordinates with Engineering only for technical support and corrective action ownership as needed.
· Customer/Government Notification: Authorizes QC communications regarding product holds, source inspection readiness, and objective evidence requests in alignment with contract and QMS procedures.
· Access to Records & Areas: Unrestricted access to production, welding, NDT, and records necessary to perform verification, audit QC processes, and secure evidence.

· Experience managing a Magnetic Particle Inspection program for metallic components.
· ASQ certifications (CQT, CQI, CMQ/OE).
· Defense or high‑precision manufacturing experience; familiarity with Digital QMS tools.
Work Environment
· On-site position with daily presence in inspection and manufacturing areas.
· Regular interaction with Production, Engineering (as internal customers of QC data), Supply Chain, and Quality Assurance.
· Occasional participation in customer or government audits and source inspections.
